Okay, so. Let’s talk reading habits, shall we? The way I consume books has changed a lot over the last few years, and my habits are constantly evolving to fit my lifestyle. Where I used to be a strictly one book at a time kind of gal, now I can enjoy multiple stories simultaneously. Where I used to be a reading night-owl, now I read whenever I have a free moment. This tag was originally created by Charly Ray ? Let’s get on with it, shall we?
1. how many books do you usually read at once?
As I mentioned previously, I used to only be able to read one book at a time. A lack of focus and a mixing of storylines was a huge issue for me, but somewhere along the way, that all changed. Even though I do tend to still only read one at a time, I’ll occasionally have two on the go depending on various factors ? I think the most I’ve ever read simultaneously was three, and trust me, it didn’t go well ?
2. how do you decide when to switch between multiple reads?
So this is actually why I tend to stick to one book at a time. I have a habit of binging the one I’m most interested in, and neglecting the other(s). It sort of just depends on the reason why I have multiple reads. If one of them is a super dense adult fantasy, I try and stick to a daily page schedule, then just read something else during the rest of my downtime in the day. Otherwise, it’s totally random and a complete mood choice ?
3. do you ever switch bookmarks partway through a book?
I don’t think I’ve ever done this, in all honesty ? I’m not as big of a bookmark collector as some readers, so I tend to stick to the same couple until they fall apart. Unless I lose one, I don’t really change it up, partway through a book or otherwise ?♀️
4. what time of day do you read most?
Once upon a time, I got all of my reading done on a night. In fact, I rarely read during the day at all. But since my work schedule has changed and I’ve learned to manage my free time differently, I now get the majority of my reading done in the morning. I’m a total early bird, but sometimes I miss reading before bed. I should try and get back into that habit ?
5. how long do you typically read in one session?
Honestly, it totally depends. Am I at work that day, or is it a day off? Do I have a ton of housework to get done? Do I have other plans? How much am I enjoying the book? I try to squeeze in at least half an hour for a session, just so I have enough time to actually make a small dent. If I have the day off, however, and life doesn’t get in the way, one session can be a couple hours if I’m super invested in the story ?
6. do you read hardbacks with the dust jacket on or off?
This is another one that totally depends. Some dust jackets fit snugly enough that I don’t have to worry about damaging them, while others hang loose and get in the way. If that’s the case, the jacket comes off, but otherwise I’m not too fussed ?♀️
7. what position do you mainly use to read?
I wish I was one of these people who could read lying down, but if I’m not sat up I just can’t get comfortable. There’s really nothing else to say ?
8. do you take your current read with you everywhere you go?
I don’t really leave the house anymore except to go to work (thanks pandemic, you’ve been a great host ?), but I very rarely took a book out with me beforehand anyway. I used to be able to read a bit at my old job, but alas, that’s no longer the case ?
9. how often do you update your goodreads progress?
I don’t tend to update my progress at all aside from starting/finishing a book, unless there’s a particularly memorable quote or I have thoughts that I just can’t contain until my review. I just don’t use Goodreads as much as I used to ?
So there you have my answers for the “Currently Reading” book tag! If you want to give it a go, consider yourself tagged ? Until next time, happy reading ?
